Developed as an extension to the School Education Program, MIEACT’s Community Education Sessions are delivered with the key help of trained Volunteer Educators.  Our Community Education Sessions are for government agencies and services, tertiary education providers, businesses, service providers and community organisations; and aim to increase knowledge and understanding of people with mental illness in the workplace.  Bookings...

Partnerships

MIEACT often delivers education sessions in partnership with Mental Health ACT. In these sessions Volunteers Educators usually tell their personal story, often focusing on a particular moment or pivotal point in their recovery, with the aim of supporting the focus and desired outcomes of a particular health education session. The audience for these sessions can include practitioners, professional care givers, nurses and front line staff.
MIEACT regularly works with ACTION Buses, providing education sessions for new staff and drivers. To increase understanding about mental illness Volunteer Educators talk about their own illness, experiences, recovery and the importance of good relations and empathy when dealing with the wider general public.

Tertiary Sector

MIEACT has also given well received education sessions to ANU Law School students and the University of Canberra Psychology students to promote understanding and reduce stigma toward people experiencing mental illness.
CIT Southside also receives regular visits from MIEACT Volunteer Educators who do sessions based on their personal experiences, within many of CIT’s Community Services training courses.
