2 Casting Light: Scripts for young adults from people living with mental illness is an Australian first! It is the result of a twelve-month collaboration between Australia’s leading educational playwright, Sue Murray, and thirteen members of MIEACT.

Casting Light includes thirteen dynamic, challenging and engaging scripts for young adults with a unique feature – they are all based on the stories of people who live with mental illness, either personally, or through caring for a family member with mental illness. The scripts come with support material and links to further information.
The resource has been specifically designed to be a teacher-friendly, providing the complete package for educators looking to explore mental health issues in the Drama or English classroom or other youth-focused settings. It offers the following features:

The beauty of Casting Light lies in bringing together three elements – the authentic voices of people who live with mental illness; the script-writing talents, professionalism and experience of an educational playwright; and mental health promotion principles.

Funding for Casting Light was received from the ACT Health Promotion Grants and project partners included MindMatters and the ACT Drama Association.

Please send MIEACT feedback on this resource – we’d love to hear your opinion.
